Glass & Grain was founded by Micah Simpson in 2017. The business combines his passion for art, glass, and woodworking into one studio. His mission is to collaborate with his customers to create custom, high quality pieces that they will enjoy for a lifetime.

Micah and his wife, Heather, and their two sons have called Birmingham, Ala. home for the past 16 years. However, Micah spent most of his youth in the city of New Orleans, which heavily influenced his love and passion for culture, spicy food, and art.

Glass:
He was exposed to glassblowing while completing his accounting degree at the University Georgia Southwestern, and he was instantly addicted to the art-form. He decided to continue his education by working towards a BFA with a concentration in glass.

Grain:
When Micah moved to Birmingham in 2006, there was no quick access to glass.  With a passion to create, Micah got into woodworking. After collecting some tools, he created a small, two car garage shop. He would soon add a mobile glass studio to the mix. The small beginnings led to expansion to the current 6,400 square foot studio space in Avondale.

Micah also holds a Master of Divinity from Beeson Divinity School, which he uses to serve as a chaplain one day a week at the Brother Bryan Rescue Mission in Birmingham, Ala.

In 2022, Micah launched glassblowing classes at the Glass & Grain studio in Avondale. His hope is to inspire and educate others on the art of glassblowing.
